The ​Expert ​Finance ​session ​is ​the ​first ​course ​in ​the ​Expert ​Series ​of ​Board ​Competency ​Training. ​This ​Finance ​session ​is ​targeted ​to ​those ​individuals ​who ​have ​a ​finance ​role ​within ​their ​PCN ​board, ​are ​members ​of ​an ​Audit ​Sub-Committee ​or ​are ​interested ​in ​becoming ​a ​Treasurer. ​

Some ​of ​the ​course ​learning ​outcomes ​for ​this ​session ​include ​(but ​are ​not ​limited ​to):
• ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Identify ​key ​areas ​of ​risk ​in ​financial ​statements,
• ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Examine ​the ​role ​of ​the ​external ​auditor ​and ​the ​audit ​process, ​and
• ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​Analyze ​and ​assess ​key ​elements ​of ​financial ​statements ​and ​how ​they ​interrelate.

Participants ​will ​be ​given ​the ​opportunity ​to ​learn, ​using ​a ​hands-on ​approach, ​about ​PCN ​finances ​and ​AH ​requirements. ​You ​will ​then ​apply ​your ​knowledge ​by ​analyzing ​sample ​financial ​statements. ​You ​will ​also ​be ​asked ​to ​bring ​a ​sample ​of ​your ​own ​PCN ​financial ​statements ​as ​you ​will ​have ​an ​opportunity ​to ​learn ​how ​to ​analyze ​them ​effectively, ​and ​get ​assistance ​if ​needed. ​Please ​note ​that ​you ​will ​not ​be ​asked ​to ​share ​publicly ​your ​PCN’s ​financial ​information. ​What ​you ​choose ​to ​share ​(if ​anything), ​will ​be ​completely ​up ​to ​you. ​

It ​is ​highly ​recommended ​that ​registrants ​of ​the ​Expert ​Series ​have ​previously ​completed ​the ​Essentials ​Certificate.
